          Dutch politician (born 1956)

          Maxime Jacques Marcel Verhagen (Dutch pronunciation:[mɑkˈsimʑɑkmɑrˈsɛlvərˈɦaːɣə(n)]; born 14 September 1956) is a retired Dutch politician and historian.

          A member of the Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA), he served as Deputy Prime Minister of the Netherlands from 2010 to 2012 under Prime Minister Mark Rutte.

          A native of Maastricht, Verhagen studied contemporary history at Leiden University, obtaining a Master of Arts degree.

          Verhagen worked as a political consultant and campaign manager for the Christian Democratic Appeal from February 1986 until July 1989.
